LG has released details of its upcoming DoublePlay smartphone, which has an interesting feature: a secondary touch-screen in the middle of the slide-out keyboard.
Exclusive to T-Mobile, the LG DoublePlay features a primary 3.5in touch-screen on its front, with the secondary 2in touch-screen revealed when the keyboard is extended in landscape mode.
The secondary screen plays host to application icons, making it significantly faster to switch between common applications without having to return to the phone's home screen.
Internally, the DoublePlay features a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a copy of Google's Android 2.3 'Gingerbread' mobile platform. The rear of the device includes a five megapixel camera with 720p video support.
While the DoublePlay is certainly an interesting design, it remains to be seen if it is anything more than a gimmick: with no Android software written to take advantage of the secondary screen, its use as an application dock may leave prospective buyers cold.
T-Mobile has yet to announce pricing or availability for the device.
